Men's C-1 Sprint 200m

Each heat got progressively quicker meaning Valentin Demyaneko (Azerbaijan) was the fastest. In the semis, it was Isaquias Queiroz (Brazil) who had that honour. The outside lanes went off early and it came to Yuriy Cheban (Ukraine) and Demyaneko. Demyaneko was slightly behind entering the last ten metres but mistimed his finish handing the gold to Cheban.

The three heat winners all went straight through to the final. The first semi-final was quicker with Ilia Shtokalov (Russia), Pavlo Altukhov (Ukraine) and Gerasim Kochnev (Uzbekistan) making the final. In the final, Brendel delivered, taking a comfortable win by over 1.5 seconds. Behind him was Queiroz. Tarnovschi won bronze but has since been stripped of his medal after a failed drug test.

The final was slower, in worse conditions and this time the result was overturned. Behind them, it was a close battle for third. The pair of Mike/Vasbanyai (Hungary) struggled to qualify but turned up for the final and missed a medal by just over 0.2. They were denied by the Ukrainian pair of Ianchuk/Mishchuk (Ukraine).
