Women’s Group All-Around

Despite a big lead in the ribbons section of the qualification event, Russia could only qualify in second. Ahead of them was the Spanish team. Three other teams qualified with a score over 35; Belarus, Italy and Japan. The final saw five teams score over 35, albeit with one difference. Russia this time opened up a strong lead in the clubs and hoops section of the event, which was more than enough to take the gold medal. It was Bulgaria instead of Japan in the final. They were second after the ribbons round and after Russia were top scorers in the clubs and hoops section which helped them manage silver.

Women’s Individual All-Around

To qualify for the final, individuals almost needed 70 points, with nine clearing that threshold. Margarita Mamun (Russia) led Yana Kudryavtseva (Russia) and Ganna Rizatdinova (Ukraine). In the final, performances only improved. Mamun scored 19 points in every event with Kudryavtseva managing it in all but one. Rizatdinova won a bronze medal, sealed by a strong ribbons performance which kept her ahead of Son Yeon-Jae (South Korea).
