Updated: Sep 20, 2022

Men’s Individual

The ranking round saw Kim Woo-Jin (South Korea) set a world record of 700 including 52 10s. Despite this, Kim was upset in the second round by Riau Ega Agatha (Indonesia) 6-2. Also losing in that round was number three seed David Pasqualucci (Italy). In the top half of the draw, Sjef van den Berg (Netherlands) and Jean-Charles Valladont (France) made it to the semi-finals. On the other side of the draw, Brady Ellison (United States) eased through where he would come up against Ku Bon-Chan (South Korea) who had edged through in a tie-breaker. He would repeat the feat against Ellison in the following round to make the final where he would come up against Valladont. Bon-Chan would come through with a big 7-3 win to take gold.

Men’s Team

South Korea was seeded number one behind the strong performances of Woo-Jin and Bon-Chan in the ranking round. They were absolutely dominant, winning every set they took part in. Italy was upset by China in the quarter-final but could not manage to parlay that into a medal losing their following two games. Instead, the United States got silver.

Women’s Individual

It was another South Korean domination as they took the top three spots in the ranking. Chang Hye-Jin  (South Korea) was second in the ranking round but hit 24 10s. Even more impressively was Tuyana Dashidorzhieva (Russia) with 26. The Russian was upset in the second round by Cao Hui (China). Alejandra Valencia (Mexico) shocked the number one ranked Choi Mi-Sun (South Korea) in the quarter-final but was herself the victim of an upset against 21st seed Lisa Unruh (Germany). The other semi-final clash came between Hye-Jin and Ki Bo-Bae (South Korea). Hye-Jin came through and would go on to dominate the final.

Women’s Team

South Korea were the favourites after winning the ranking round. Like the men, they did not lose a set. Similar to the Men’s event, it mainly played to seeding as Russia made the final. The biggest shock saw the number six seed Italy beat the number three in China.
