Men’s Event
Group A was incredibly tight, although it featured the whipping boys in Brazil, who conceded 46 goals. The only team they scored against were Great Britain who failed to qualify from the group, Brazil being the only team they beat. Belgium won the group with four victories and scored 21 goals. The only game they lost was the final group stage game against New Zealand when already qualified. Spain and Australia qualified in second and third respectively. Ireland and Canada were expected to struggle in group B and both did. Germany finished the group unbeaten ahead of the Netherlands and Argentina, with India qualifying in fourth. Argentina got a big win over Spain in the quarter-final, with a last-minute goal from Juan Gilardi. The Netherlands comfortably beat Australia 4-0. Both Belgium and Germany came back from deficits, with Germany trailing New Zealand 2-0 after 55 minutes. Belgium got a 3-1 victory over the Netherlands in the semi-final while Argentina beat Germany 5-2 behind a Gonzalo Peillat hat-trick. Argentina would continue that good form beating Belgium in the final whilst Germany edged the Netherlands in a penalty shootout because some things never change.

Women’s Event
Group A was close again, with South Korea finishing bottom. The one result they managed was a draw against China which kept them from qualifying. Instead, Spain took their place in the next round. The Netherlands were unbeaten in top place ahead of New Zealand and Germany. More impressive than unbeaten is winning every game, like Great Britain managed in Group B. They qualified along with the United States, Australia and Argentina. The Netherlands and New Zealand won their games against Argentina and Australia. Germany managed to upset the United States 2-1 while Great Britain went through comfortably. In the semi-finals, the Netherlands beat Germany after an epic 14-shot penalty shootout. Great Britain joined them in the final with a comfortable 3-0 win over New Zealand. In the final, Britain twice came from behind to draw 3-3 with the Netherlands and won a tense penalty shootout 2-0.
