Men’s Event
Ahmed Elgendy (Egypt) took the first semi-final whilst the second semi-final was won by Taishu Sato (Japan) and Jun Woong-tae (South Korea). In the final, six men scored 300 in the equestrian element of the event. Elgendy got the most points from the fencing round to lead overall ahead of Woong-tae. Joseph Choong (Great Britain) and Alexandre Dallenbach (Switzerland) won the swimming but Elgendy maintained his lead. Starting first in the laser run, Elgendy kept his pace despite some early misses. Dallenbach really struggled at the first shoot as Sato went into second ahead of Wong-tae. At halfway, Elgendy led by 18 seconds from Sato. Sato widened the gap back to his contenders for the other medals at the third round of the firing range. The battle for third heated up as Wong-tae left just ahead of Giorgio Malan (Italy) but the Italian pulled away and take third. The quickest overall time went to Emiliano Hernandez (Mexico) but he was too far behind, only finishing fourth. Elgendy set a world record with a total score of 1555.
🥇Ahmed Elgendy 🇪🇬
🥈Taishu Sato 🇯🇵
🥉Giorgio Malan 🇮🇹
I picked the wrong Egyptian saying that Elgendy would just about miss the podium. Woong-tae looked like making the podium until the run, whilst I did predict the struggles of Choong.

Women’s Event
Kerenza Bryson (Great Britain) set an Olympic record in the semi-final, while Elodie Clouvel (France) won the other semi. In the final, eight were clear in the jumping round. Clouvel led after the fencing, ahead of Michelle Gulyas (Hungary) and Elena Micheli (Italy) in third following a strong fencing run. Alice Sotero (Italy) led the swim, leaving Clouvel thirteen seconds ahead of Gulyas heading into the laser run, a further five seconds ahead of Seong Seung-min (South Korea) as five left within a minute of Clouvel. The first visit to the range saw the lead change as Gulyas went into the lead, with Clouvel taking 14 attempts. She was overtaken at the second visit to the range by Seung-min only for Clouvel to pass her back on the run. A perfect visit, for the third, would give Gulyas a clear lead. She wasn’t perfect on the final visit but knew she’d done enough celebrating as she left the range and set a world record. Clouvel was able to hold onto her edge to take silver.
🥇Michelle Gulyas 🇭🇺
🥈Elodie Clouvel 🇫🇷
🥉Seong Seung-min 🇰🇷
If I’d have ignored Micheli, I would have been correct. I mentioned Seung-min as a danger.
